Food Money

I was watching a cartoon with Julian about food webs and food chains. A food web describes the whole system and food chains are single paths from a food source to the top. There is a certain balance to populations based on available food and number of predators. If all the predators go away, too many prey multiply and the system collapses. Very interesting stuff. There is a problematic correlation to money and food. We all need money, because money allows us to live. In fact we can’t live without money, it is the mechanism for us to grow do the things we want to do—travel, have a family, eat, go to plays, experience art, etc. The problem with money as food is that nutrients flow up, and we have created an arbitrary social web where all nutrients flow upwards because it is treated like food and substitutes for food. Money feeds life. Systems of money require debt. We take on debt to start businesses and grow our money (unless our parents are rich). We take on debt to develop skills and knowledge to be able to have a job. We take risks and invest to see money grow through a belief in other people’s work. We are given money as a result of our work. We are given money by those in our family, in the form of food and housing.
