Analogous Or Not

When does travelling somewhere not require going, but rather experiencing. Experiencing through virtual recreations and digital sensory stimulations. Star trek, counting heads and the Matrix have shown the usefulness, danger and illusion that this technology creates. Do I need to go somewhere anymore? Does knowing the analog experience is happing somehow stimulate my soul in a way a faked experience never could? Where the only difference is the knowledge that one is in the world and the other is in my head.
